More than 30 groups organize Downtown Day, offering free admission to several attractions — such as the Shedd Aquarium and the Art Institute — for young people who don't often leave their neighborhoods to explore the city's richness.
The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court on Friday and accuses the city of suppressing speech criticizing the government during the high-profile event.
“There’s a very good chance that they will fire me,” said Katherine Franke, a tenured professor who has defended students protesting for Gaza.
"You can go with the person who has shown up for the people of this country, investing in cities across America, or you can go with the person who does not to believe in democracy," Johnson said.
