My Block My Hood My City kicked off its youth-led tour program on Wednesday. Tours run every Saturday throughout the summer in North Lawndale.
The boy was walking out of his home about 3 p.m. in the 2300 block of West Jackson Boulevard when shots were fired, striking him in the chest, police said. Sources say an assault-style rifle was used in the attack.
The city is required to provide police escorts for all convention committee personnel who are "delivering credentials to state delegations and the media at their respective hotels." It also must provide “special” security for “delegates and other dignitaries.”
The neighborhoods are Austin, Garfield Park, Humboldt Park and Little Village, where about 20% of shootings occur citywide, according to city crime statistics.
