Onlookers observed the water rescue drill, organized to inform beachgoers on water safety ahead of the scheduled Friday opening of Chicago beaches. “I didn’t know if it was real or not,” one observer said. “It was a good display.”
It happened about 9:30 p.m. at a residential apartment building in the 1300 block of South Throop Street in the Little Italy/UIC neighborhood, officials said.
The man, 21, was driving a motorcycle when he ran a red light and ran into a Jeep SUV, police said.
