The convention will mark a coming-out party for Kathy Salvi, who faces the challenge of rebuilding a party incrementally decimated by failed statewide campaigns, division within its ranks — and Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s vast fortune bolstering Democratic supermajorities.
“There’s a very good chance that they will fire me,” said Katherine Franke, a tenured professor who has defended students protesting for Gaza.
"You can go with the person who has shown up for the people of this country, investing in cities across America, or you can go with the person who does not to believe in democracy," Johnson said.
Republicans have one final legal card they can play, but it’s a long shot.
