The House minority leader appeared on WNYC’s The Brian Lehrer Show as some Democrats pressure President Biden to exit the race.
City Hall said the move had been made out of an abundance of caution, and that there were no known ties or threats to New York City.
"We have some very good potential candidates out there that ... would excite, not only the Democratic Party, but independents who make the difference in these elections," the former U.S. Commerce secretary said.
Instead of rallying around incumbent New York Rep. Jamaal Bowman, top Democrats made little efforts to protect him from AIPAC and George Latimer.
