The convention will mark a coming-out party for Kathy Salvi, who faces the challenge of rebuilding a party incrementally decimated by failed statewide campaigns, division within its ranks — and Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s vast fortune bolstering Democratic supermajorities.
"We have some very good potential candidates out there that ... would excite, not only the Democratic Party, but independents who make the difference in these elections," the former U.S. Commerce secretary said.
Most Illinois delegates — whether elected or appointed — continue to back the nominations of Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for a second term.
"You can go with the person who has shown up for the people of this country, investing in cities across America, or you can go with the person who does not to believe in democracy," Johnson said.
